Frequently Asked Questions

We are not Catholic.  Will I be taking religion courses?

Yes.  All students are required to take theology every year, and both Catholic students and non-Catholics have an equal opportunity to succeed. These classes provide the necessary foundation for a system of values by which our graduates may guide their lives.

What is the average class size?

Our student to teacher ratio is 14:1 with an average class size of 22 to 26 students per class.  Some elective classes are even smaller.  Every effort is made to keep class sizes small so that students receive the attention they deserve.

What percentage of Alter students are college bound?

On average, 97% of Alter graduates are accepted and enroll at premier academic institutions across the country, majoring in a wide variety of fields of study.  Recent graduates have been welcomed at Boston College, Brown, Case Western, Cincinnati Conservatory, Dartmouth, Drexel, Holy Cross, Miami, Notre Dame, Tulane, U.S. Air Force Academy, University of Dayton, Wake Forest and Xavier University.
