Faith-Filled Retreats
For the past fifteen years Alter high school has provided a four year retreat program. A great deal of time is devoted to preparing retreats and hosting these retreats. Each year we evaluate and adapt our retreats.
Retreats are a time away from our everyday schedule, a time to let go of the business of every day life. It is a time to reflect, pray, connect, grow, take stock of where we are going and renew ourselves. It is an opportunity to put ourselves in touch what is most important in our lives - our relationship with God.
Since our spiritual life embraces all aspects of our lives, retreats include all our relationships. Thus retreats often include small group with shared prayer and discussion. We belong to a community, the Church. As people of God we affirm, strengthen and support one another in our faith lives.
Each of our retreats calls our students to renew their faith and to become active Christian leaders. Some of our retreats include peer leadership. Working with students in preparation for leading a retreat is very important. This experience becomes a time of growth and development for the student leaders.
It is important that all of us take time out to renew our spiritual lives. Our faculty make a retreat each year. Most of our faculty participate in our student retreats.
It is our hope that the retreats that our students experience at Alter are not the last they attend. As many of our students have reported their involvement in college, we aim to instill in them the recognition of the need for reflection, prayer and renewal for the rest of their lives.
