Eligibility Policy
Recognizing that the educated person has interest beyond the purely academic, Alter High School tries to provide various opportunities for students to follow specific interests and, also, for their growth spiritually, intellectually, and physically.
Attendance Policy
For a student to participate in any extra-curricular activity*, he/she must complete a full day of school. A complete day is defined as full attendance at each scheduled class for a full period of time. Normally, exceptions to this policy include only school mandated activities and medical appointments verified by a note from the physician. The principal may approve any other exception.
*Extra-curricular activity includes any practice, game, contest, field trip, club meeting, performance or any other school-sponsored activity.
Academic Eligibility
Weekly Ineligibility: If a student is failing two (2) subjects, the student will be ineligible to play or participate until such time that he/she is no longer failing two subjects.
Quarterly Ineligibility: In order to be eligible in grades 9-12, a student must be currently enrolled and must have been enrolled in school immediately preceding grading period. During the preceding grading period, the student must have received passing grades in a minimum of five one-credit courses or the equivalent.
A student may be declared ineligible at any time at the discretion of the principal or the athletic director in consultation with the principal.
Suspension
A student who accumulates 20 Category I and II demerits in a semester is ineligible to participate in any school activities or athletics for two (2) weeks. If accumulation continues, a student is ineligible to participate for two (2) weeks if they should reach the level of 40 demerits.
Participation Forms
An athletic participation, release, waiver, and indemnity form will be distributed to athletes for both parents and students to sign. This form is a requirement for athletic participation.
