Alter High School Sports Medicine
The Alter High School sports medicine program provides the opportunity for students to be introduced to an allied health profession. The students in the program will work with the certified athletic trainer in treating and learning about athletic injuries, wound care and injury prevention. Students are trained in CPR and basic first aid skills as well as some basic taping techniques. Each student involved in the program is assigned a specific sport to work with and is responsible for attending all practices and games as well as a few other team activities. Students involved in the program receive the appropriate athletic award for his/her commitment to the team he/she is assigned. Many of the students who have been a part of the program in the past were interested in entering a medical profession, wanted to be a part of an athletic team or just wanted to be involved in a school activity. Whatever the reason students have for becoming part of the sports medicine program they all seem to enjoy the experience and take something positive away from it.
