Service

Service involves the student in the community. It provides experiential learning and exposes students to real life situations. As a Catholic school, we recognize that Jesus calls us to serve. This is what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Service learning is integrated into the curriculum at Alter. In other words, the students' service work is related to or applied in some way to what they are studying. Service is not something we do in a vacuum but rather it applies to everyday life.

Students are engaged in service learning each year. Freshmen students apply their service within their Science class. Sophomores engage in service through their English class. Juniors and Senior's participate in service within their Theology classes.

The overall goal of service learning is to expand the learning environment. We hope to teach that serving is a gift for both those who give and for those who receive.
