Juniors
From the Guidance Department
A primary focus in the eleventh grade is career information and college planning. We will assist juniors in getting information about careers, college options, military service, or employment. Another related guidance service offered to all juniors and their parents is a college information program in May (date to be announced). All juniors are expected to take the PSAT in October, which allows students to compete in the National Merit Scholarship competition.
Please be advised that most four-year institutions review ACT or SAT scores during the admissions process. Test dates are on the following websites: www.actstudent.org (ACT); www.collegeboard.com (SAT). Most juniors take one or both of these tests during the second semester. Besides being necessary for college admissions, one or both of these tests is required for some scholarships. Also, any student who has not passed one or more sections of the Ohio Graduation Test will retake that portion in fall.
The counselors will give classroom presentations about the college process in November- December. Juniors will then meet with their counselors before the spring registration to discuss senior schedules. In January-February each junior will attend a conference with his/her counselor where credits, GPA, careers, course requirements for graduation, and college plans are discussed.
Information on college visits and the college search will be available to your child at this time. The junior bulletin board on the third floor displays information concerning summer college classes, enrichment opportunities, and specific college open houses for juniors.
